she woke me up with a bang bang

i know you guys have all been hoping that i would post soon about my super-riveting life, so i'll indulge you...

life is nice right now. not too boring, not too busy. i've been hanging out a lot, watching a ridiculous amount of movies, etc. fairly typical summertime activities.

in the past few days it has become quite blatant to me that i am a nerd. i have actually always known this, but believe it or not, the syndrome is much more pronounced when i am at home. in all actually, the combined forces of my family members (with slight input from the delwoods) make the rest of my friends at school look rather tame. in particular, there are a couple of incidents that made this stand out to me. for one, i've spent the past week trying to install mysql, apache, and php on my computer so i can learn database and web programming stuff. (props to anyone who has any idea what i'm talking about) then i was talking to one of my friends from high school and i had to admit that i switched majors from what he termed my 'nerdy major' of industrial engineering to what is an undeniably nerdier major of computer engineering. the last thing is, my brother arrived home on friday night sporting a lovely shirt sporting equations and diagrams all over it. i started looking at the shirt and slowly realized that it was an ieee (institute of electrical and electronics engineers) shirt. then i started looking at all the equations and diagrams and realized that i knew what most of them meant and their significance. i got irrationally excited about it. to the extent that my mom and brother commented on it. that's ok though, at least i enjoy what i'm doing.

my time in columbia is quickly drawing to a close. seth and i leave on sunday morning to fly to shanghai. i will be spending my 19th birthday in a foreign country. i think it's a pretty good deal considering 19 is kind of the birthday that gets shafted in the late teens/early twenties age span. i'm pretty excited about the trip, but probably more excited about leaving the country than i am about going to china in particular. however, it will be me, naomi, and seth; we're going to take the country by storm and dazzle them with our extreme heights.

anyhow, i've got to go try to finish installing php. i sure hope this is worth the four or five hours i've spent trying to install this slew of software...
