since i hate making up titles for my posts i think i'm just going to use song lyrics that strike my fancy when i can't think of an appropriate title. it will be left as an optional exercise for the reader to figure out which song it is...
i have to say, right now, i feel great. i really do, i didn't just throw that in there for the link. had three tests last week and a project due last night (sunday) at midnight. it just feels so good to have that done. plus i've been doing "fun" reading a lot recently. i need to keep making time for that in my schedule. it just relaxes me so much, reminds me that the real world is not made up of circuits, and-or gates or exception handling. thank goodness. it's kind of strange, because all the fun reading i did in high school was all fiction. and not generally great fiction at that. it wasn't trashy or anything, just not classic i suppose. all of a sudden these days i'm just much more interested in reading non-fiction. maybe i feel like it's more applicable to real life, which would imply that i actually care about real-life application now...that's cool.
played basketball at the huff tonight. it was a lot of fun. i should do that more often. should also learn how to shoot a basketball while i'm at it. that would be really cool.
went to the meeting for rhodes/marshall scholarship stuff today. i kind of have mixed feelings about it. obviously to get one of those scholarships would be absolutely amazing, but a lot of me says it's just not worth all the work for something i probably wouldn't win. because in all honesty, i'm really not that spectacular of a candidate. i have good grades and i'm a minority in my major, but that's about it. i don't really have any lofty career goals, and i'm definitely not pursuing the connections i'd need to get some sort of nifty job like that. i'm not really involved on campus because most of my time is spent either doing homework or hanging out with my friends so i can remain sane enough to do more homework. i know that i need to be more involved on campus, but at this point it seems like a major reason would be resume-building, which i really detest the concept of. on the other hand though, i think pursuing some of those type things would make me a better person in the end. there's a reason being involved in things is viewed a good thing. plus, i think the amount of thought i'd have to put into writing a personal statement would be good for me. i think it would really help me to think through what i really want to get out of my college experience and what i want to do with my life. to have to justify that to someone else would definitely demand good reasons for what i'm doing. is it worth it just for that experience. to be able to say i did it? maybe i will, after all, i did miss out on all the "i got accepted to harvard (yale, princeton, stanford etc.)" hype in high school. i was just waiting for the, "hey, ou let me apply for the rhodes scholarship" in college.
by the way, that last paragraph was essentially irrelevant at this point considering you don't apply for those scholarships until your senior year, which at this point is at least a year and a half away and at this point is looking more and more like it will be 2 and a half years. "do it in 5" take that, honors college. good night everone.
